Why are we here?
HAV Horse Rescue has the very same philosophy as Hearts Alive Village. If there is an animal in need – we are there.
How do we decide who gets to live here?
Before setting a hoof on our rescue, each animal is carefully vetted. We want to know its complete history including the name and contact info for its veterinarian. Then, at our expense, we bring in our own veterinary consultant.
If an animal is accepted as a guest at the rescue, either as a candidate for re-homing or for permanent residency, our vet will do a wellness exam.
All their vaccinations and medical needs will be met while they are with us. During that time, we evaluate each animal to determine its adoptability.
The Adoptables
Erica, our trainer, will work with them to learn about their personalities. Are they saddle trained? If not, she will teach them how to accept a saddle. A little shy or skittish? Better for an adult rider or more suitable for a young person? Erica has the experience and knowledge to make that call. All the better for any potential adopter, don’t you agree? No other horse rescue in the area offers this level of care and training.
Permanent Residents
If a surrendered horse is not suitable for rehoming, it will remain at HAV Horse Rescue for the rest of its life with medical support and loving care. In many cases, the owner will pay what they can for the animal’s upkeep. But all these horses are very much in need of sponsors to help with the cost of their care. Learn how you can be a hero to a horse in need.
Now… The Barn!
Custom designed with safety and comfort first. The barn has 10 stalls, each is 12’x12’ with a 12’x24’turnout. The inside has designated stocks for vet exams. And, the indoor horse wash is equipped with cold and hot water.
True story: A well-known LV equine vet was invited up to give his take on the barn. He shared with a colleague “…they think I’m coming up to oooooh and ahhhh at their barn! I’m going up there to see what’s WRONG with it!”
After his visit, the vet was stunned and reported: “I couldn’t find one thing wrong! Not just the barn but every stall, arena, tack room, turn out, pasture, staff…everything was without fault. that’s never happened to me in my entire career!”
